Tips to Making Your Moving Day Flow Smoothly

Tips to Making Your Moving Day Flow Smoothly

Long before your actual moving day arrives and your Toronto moving company arrives at your home, there are several things you should do, to help ensure your moving day proceeds as planned. Oftentimes, people tend to overlook many of the smaller details involved with moving and realize they forgot these until the day of their move. So rather than being able to focus on the excitement of moving into a new home, they become stressed while attempting to take care of various things they forgot about.

Tip # 1
Once you know you will be moving, it is a good idea to treat the move like a project. You will want to get notepads, pens, and folders and use these to keep your moving details in one place where they are easily accessible.

1. Notepads: Use these to make “To-Do” lists, like calling a professional moving company in Toronto to obtain a quote, scheduling your move, and remembering to buy packing materials such as boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, etc. In addition, you should have one notepad that has a list of your utility companies, the moving company, and other businesses/providers you will need to interact with during the moving process. You may also want to write down account numbers, if applicable, so you have them accessible whenever you call.

2. Folders: Label your folders and use these to keep all relevant paperwork related to the move, such as lease agreements, purchase contracts, moving service quotes, and so on.

Tip # 2
Start packing sooner, rather than later. One of the biggest mistakes most people make is putting off packing until the very last minute. They figure there will be plenty of time to pack up their belongings while the movers are loading larger items, like sofas, wardrobes, and so on. However, most professional movers are efficient and can complete the loading of goods into the truck before they are able to complete packing of the contents into boxes.

If you are having problems deciding what to pack or simply lack the time, talk to your mover. They might offer professional packing services, where they will be happy to give you a moving/packing checklist, or come into your home and pack up your belongings for you.

Tip # 3
Remember to label and number all of your boxes as you pack. On the outside of the box, write a summary of the contents, the room where it will be unloaded in your new home and the number of the box. Additionally, record the same details in one of your notepads. Having an inventory count of the total number of boxes will make it easier to ensure all of your belongings get loaded onto the truck and arrive at your new home.
