Make Residential Moves Easier by Using These Tips

Make Residential Moves Easier by Using These Tips

No one truly likes to move and all the tasks and chores that go along with relocating your entire household from one location to another. Yet we still move periodically for different reasons such as purchasing our first home, finding a great deal on an apartment, or upgrading to a larger home to start a family.

To help make your next residential move easier, our Toronto professional movers are pleased to share these great tips with you:

Tip #1: Purge as You Pack

As you are packing up your home, you should go through your belongings and decide whether they are worth moving. Most of us have accumulated items over the years we no longer want, need, or use. It does not make sense to waste time packing them, only to store them in a closet in your new home.

Tip #2: Use Clear Totes for Items You Need Right Away

Finding cleaning supplies, toiletries, or other items you will need once you move into your new home is easier when you pack them into clear totes. You won’t have to waste time opening boxes to find what you need.

Tip #3: Take Pictures of Anything You Take Apart

Whether you have to unhook that jumbled mess of wires behind your entertainment center or need to take apart furniture, it is a good idea to take pictures on your smartphone or tablet. Knowing which coloured wire gets plugged in where or which size screws were in which holes will be much easier when it comes time to reassemble these things later.

Tip #4: Play Music While Packing and Unpacking

Having some background music playing while you pack or unpack can help keep you motivated. Select your favorite songs that are upbeat to keep you energized. You can even set goals, such as packing or unpacking at least one box for every two songs.

Tip #5: Take a Vacation from Work

Moving tasks do take time to complete. If you find you are running out of time and still have tons of packing to get done, take a vacation day to get everything completed. After you move into your new home, take a vacation day to get everything unpacked so you can settled into your new home faster.

Tip #6: Prioritize Your Unpacking

It is easy to go from room to room and unpack a box or two of essential items and not feel like you are getting much accomplished. A better approach is to prioritize which rooms you want to unpack first, second, third, and so on. Unpack all boxes for that room and put everything away before moving onto the next room. Not only will this give you a sense of accomplishment, you will find unpacking goes quicker.
